Verify the count
How the count is protected
Every vote is written to a ledger the organizer and Durbar's apps can only add to: the database refuses to edit or delete a vote for every login those apps use. A paid vote is written only once the payment provider confirms the money arrived. Payments confirmed up to 30 minutes after voting closes count. After that they don't: the money goes back to the voter.
The organizer can't change votes. They can only void one, with a reason that is listed below for everyone, and the void is sealed into the chain like a vote. A payment reversed by a bank or wallet provider comes off the count the same way.
A few minutes after each hour ends, its records are sealed: the hour's hash is sha256 of the previous hour's hash followed by that hour's records, one per line. Change one record, anywhere, and that hour's hash and every one after it change.
The nominee list is on the chain too, as voting opens. From then on a name or photo changes only with a passkey and a reason, listed below, and once voting closes it can't change at all. A later closing time, an early close and a withdrawal are listed and sealed the same way.
That protects against the organizer and against anyone who gets into the apps. It doesn't stop Durbar itself: whoever holds Durbar's database owner login can switch those rules off, rewrite votes and seal the chain again, and the chain alone would still add up. That is what the anchors below are for.
What this can't tell you
- Who voted. This is an awards vote or audience poll, not an election: there's no voter roll and no secret ballot, and one phone isn't one person. A check here says the published records agree, not that each vote came from a different person.
- Who paid. Paid votes show money raised. Anyone can buy votes, including a nominee's backers or the organizer, who receives the money less fees. A limit per phone is a guide: phone numbers aren't checked.
- Whether every vote made it in. A record left out before its hour was sealed wouldn't show here. The chain shows what was sealed didn't change afterwards.

Anchors
What they do. After each hour is sealed, Durbar's worker signs the newest hash with a key that isn't in the database or on this site, adds it to a public feed that only ever grows, and emails it to the organizer when the hour held records. If anyone later rewrites votes and seals the chain again, its hashes change and stop matching every copy made before.
What they don't do. An anchor shows this hash existed by the time someone kept a copy. It doesn't show the votes behind it were honest when sealed. The feed runs on Durbar and Durbar holds the signing key, so someone with both the database and the key could rewrite the feed too: only copies kept outside Durbar would then show it. No outside timestamping service holds these yet.
How to check
- Keep a copy: the organizer's anchor emails, or the public feed saved now and then.
- Compare the head hash in your copy with the same hour in the chain above. They must be the same.
- "Check the chain in this browser" compares every anchor here with the chain, signatures included.
- With your own tools: a digest is sha256 of the fields listed in the download's format, and the signature is Ed25519 over the digest's hex text, with the public key below.
