Write an invitation from a template

Start from words written for your kind of event, in your brand's colours, and see what each guest will read before you send.

Checked against Durbar on

A funeral invitation and a product launch shouldn't sound the same. Durbar has words ready for 19 kinds of event, each with an email and an SMS version. You fill in the details and change anything you like.

The preview uses your first guest's name and your brand colour, as they'll see it.

Write it

  1. Open the event in Guests, go to Invitations and replies, and under The invitation choose Choose a template.
  2. Durbar suggests a kind from the event's title and category. Take it, or choose another under Template.
  3. Fill in Details, such as the couple's names or the dress code. A line with an optional detail left empty disappears from the invitation.
  4. Change the words in the Email and SMS cards if you like.
  5. Check the Preview. Switch between Email and SMS, Light and Dark, and Computer and Phone. The SMS tab counts the parts it will take.
  6. Choose Save invitation. Send test to me sends it to you alone, marked as a test.
  7. When you're ready, choose Invite guests.

If something required is still blank, Durbar says This can't go out yet and names it, so nobody gets a gap in the middle of a sentence. The event must be published before invitations go, but you can write and test them first.

The kinds of event

Funeral or memorial, naming ceremony (outdooring), engagement or traditional marriage, wedding, graduation, awards night, product launch, fundraiser, gala dinner, staff party, after-work event, workshop or training, conference, birthday, church event, company event, concert or festival, sports day, and any other event.

Fields you can use

Type a field in curly brackets and Durbar fills it in for each guest: {name}, {fullName}, {event}, {when}, {date}, {time}, {venue}, {town}, {place}, {rsvpBy} and {link}. Each template adds its own, such as {host}. If you mistype one, Durbar tells you before it can go out.

Your brand

The email takes your logo and main colour from the event's brand kit, or your organization's. Set them in Studio, under Brand kit. If your colour would be hard to read, Durbar uses dark text instead. A solemn invitation keeps its quiet look.

Keep your own

Save as template keeps your words under Your templates, up to 100, to use on later events. Invitation templates, under Guests, shows Your templates and the Library. Make a copy gives you a library template to change.

Invitations go by email and SMS. To use WhatsApp, share each guest's link yourself with Share on WhatsApp.
